Virtual page view gives marketers the ability to track a Page view , even though the page is not physically loaded in the browser. That’s the case of a single-page application such as Twitter, Pinterest, Spotify or Netflix.

This is useful if, for example, in checkout processes where a user completes many Actions without leaving or loading a new page. But there are other ways you can apply those page views.

Let’s say you want to track users who sign up for a music app and go through an onboarding process. If you break it down, then the process will have following stages:

  • Creating a user profile
  • Setting up a username
  • Choosing a pricing plan
  • Selecting favorite genres
  • Finding friends contact who already has the membership
  • Giving permission for personalization
  • Saving changes

All those stages can be treated as virtual page views.
